This was supposedly the day I would say “I do”; and I did say the same. So I am officially engaged. Probably the first step towards the process of marriage. The day started as early as six in the morning for me with the customary visit to the church for a mass. Then it was time to get ready. Relatives started coming in one after the other. One thing that is very peculiar about weddings or its associated functions is that it brings a smile into everyone’s face no matter what. So was the case with me. The smile that had vanished yesterdady on my lips reappeared yesterday.
Then started the process of getting ready for the function. As I was about to change, my brother popped up and said not to wear the shirt, as the “activity” of wearing the shirt had to be captured in the video… he he he. Sounds strange, isn’t it? Your actions are all of a sudden defined by the videographers. So I waited for them to arrive; and then changed; or should I say I acted wearing it. And then had to strike a few pose in front of the camera; I guess it was sufficient for creating a decent portfolio for some modeling assignment. The made me sit in weird poses; create impossible angles. The only thing that I could do was to laugh at myself. Where was I – the perennial cynic for these kind of things; now falling in line doing things that I hated all the while… One round of seeking blessings from the people present there; and a bit of prayers; I was all set to go – for my big betrothal…
We were to travel to Amms’s church for this function. So the travel started through the crowded roads of Chin. This maynot be Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore when it comes to the sheer size of the city. But when it comes to traffic snarls this city is second to none. There were times when we thought that we might not reach the church in time. But for a change, luck didn’t desert us. We reached the church on time; so much so that Amms and family hadn’t reached. So we waited… After almost ten minutes, they came. I could get the first glimpse of Amms as she was sitting in the front seat of the car. She looked stunning in the red sari of hers.
And then the official function started. This was part of the function where the church officially asks for the bride and the groom’s consent to get married. So the priest asked me the same; and my answer was “I do”. The same question was asked to Amms. Her answer was the same. So the priest officially notified the process.. So here we are… waiting to get married!!!
